These ones were painted for a friend of my mother's. As he is a bit older than my typical customer, I had to get out of the box a little with these ones. They're a little more brilliant in person.

You can't see it super super well but these little navy blue shoes have little seersuckery stripes on the lining, which just lends itself straight to being sailor shoes so I thought some awesome tugboats would be in order. What little boy could not love tugboats? Even I love tugboats and I am a 20 year old girl. They are freakin sweet. Anyways, these ones (which I actually painted over a year ago) hopped right off the shelf and found a happy home.

I painted these for my brother for his birthday, which is may 5th. I finished in December. This is why the date notation on the side of the shoe says, "April, May, and December '09". I feel bad about that, but I think they turned out so cool that it was worth it.

This is the other of the first two pairs at the children's hour. The origination of the idea of these shoes was that I bought them on ebay and they had been worn exactly one time, but they were slightly dirty so I put them in the washing machine, (nice thing about vans, you can do that) and when they came out, there was an odd faded parchment look to them, which covered right up but it was my inspiration.

I painted these for the two, now three year old daughter of some friends of mine for Christmas. When I was asking my friend what I might put on them, she said she liked fish, and this immediately popped into my head. I really like how these turned out.

Last year I nannied the son of a close family friend and since he had just turned one and would be walking soon, I thought it would be great to paint him some shoes for Christmas. Coincedentally, I overshot a little bit on sizing up for him, and he just turned two and will be wearing them probably in a couple of months. It's gonna be a good year.

During the summer of 2008, my family went briefly to the Salt Lake Art Festival before heading up to Montana for a family vacation. After we left, my mom gave the three of us kids the assignment that we had to each do some sort of art project for her during the summer. Since I had just painted the Barf shoes and had greatly enjoyed it, I decided to paint a pair of vans for her as well.

Since I like robots, I decided to do a mom version for her. She's holding a paint brush and palette because my mom happens to love art. She hasn't worn them yet, she says she can't stand to mess them up. I think she's crazy. There's nothing I love to see so much as a pair of my shoes that have been well enjoyed.

A Robot Called Barf

Originally painted as a pair of joint custody shoes. I couldn't afford to buy a pair of shoes so my friend agreed to chip in for one shoe. The shoes traveled between us all summer until I paid her back.
